ASTM A53 pipe covers Seamless and Welded, Black and Hot-Dipped Galvanized nominal  wall pipe for coiling, bending, flanging and other special purposes and is suitable for welding. Continuous-Welded pipe is not intended for flanging. Purpose for which pipe is intended should be stated on order.

ASTM A333 covers nominal wall seamless and welded carbon and alloy steel pipe intended for use at low temperatures. Several grades of ferritic steel are included. Some product sizes may not be available under this specification because heavier wall thicknesses have an adverse affect on low-temperature impact properties.

The pipe shall be made by the seamless or welding process with the addition of no filler metal in the welding operation.

ASTM A106 Carbon Steel Seamless Pipes are commonly used in low and middle pressure fluid pipeline, boiler, petroleum and natural gas industry, drilling, chemical industry, electrical industry, shipbuilding, fertilizer equipment and pipeline, petrochemical.

ASTM A106 Seamless Pressure Pipe (also known as ASME SA106 pipe) covers seamless carbon steel nominal wall pipe for high-temperature service. Suitable for bending, flanging and similar forming operations.

API 5L specifies the manufacture of two product levels of seamless and welded steel pipe for the use of a pipeline in the transportation of petroleum and natural gas.

Ingots, blooms, billets, coils or plates used for the manufacture of pipe shall be made via basic oxygen, electric furnace or open hearth in combination with a ladle refining process. For PSL2, the steel shall be killed and melted according to a fine grain practice. Coil or plate used for PSL2 pipe shall not contain any repair welds.

Specifications for API 5L adhere to the International Organization for Standardization ISO 3183, which standardizes pipeline transportation systems within the materials, equipment and offshore structures for petroleum, petrochemical, and natural gas industries. The technical committee authoring the standards recognized that there are two basic Product Specifications Levels (PSL) of technical requirements and therefore developed PSL 1 and PSL 2. PSL 1 is a standard quality for line pipe where PSL 2 contains additional chemical, mechanical properties, and testing requirements.
